Support Group Meeting – Sat, Dec. 6th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
This meeting we will have a Friends & Family Potluck.
This will be a fun time and a great opportunity to show our appreciation for those who help and care for us as well as a chance for our loved ones to learn more about vestibular disorders and the challenges of living with chronic dizziness and imbalance. We’ll invite friends and family to share their perspective with us and also give our guests the opportunity to ask questions so that they might better understand what we’re going through and hear suggestions for how to offer support.
We will also plan to share tips for getting through the busy holiday season.
(Note: There are no kitchen facilities).
Invite your friends and family. Or, come by yourself. No guests required.
*We are meeting the 1st Saturday of the month due to Library Meeting Room availability.*

Support Group Meeting – Sat, Nov. 8th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
“CranioSacral Therapy”
Come learn about this complementary therapy for managing the symptoms of a chronic vestibular or balance disorder.
Dr. Emily Lesnak, a naturopathic doctor at Bastyr Center for Natural Health, will share and discuss with us an overview of CranioSacral Therapy, including what it is, how it works, and what a typical treatment consists of.

Support Group Meeting – Sat, Oct. 11th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
This meeting we will be celebrating 8 years together!
October marks eight years that we have been meeting as a support group. We will plan to share group highlights and favorite personal memories and also hear your suggestions and ideas for the future.
As part of our celebration, you will have the chance to win a drawing for a FREE Seattle Dizzy Group t-shirt!

Walk for Balance – Sat, September 20th – 11:30am-2pm at Green Lake
In celebration of Balance Awareness Week (September 15-21, 2014) and Falls Prevention Day (September 23, 2014), Seattle Dizzy Group will host our Fourth Annual Balance Awareness Event/Walk for Balance on Saturday, September 20th from 11:30am-2pm at Green Lake. This year’s theme is “Walk a Mile in Dizzy Shoes.” We also plan to offer balance awareness information and interactive activities. Through this event, we hope to help create greater awareness for vestibular/balance disorders and show our support for people living with chronic dizziness and imbalance.

Support Group Meeting – Sat, July 12th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
“Treating & Managing Vestibular and Balance Disorders”
Meredith Mancuso, DPT of Mosaic Physical Therapy will share and discuss with us an overview of Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy focusing on the treatment of Vestibular Unilateral Hypofunction (as from Meniere’s Disease or Vestibular Neuritis) and the importance of Gait Speed. We will also learn recommendations for Migraine management.

Support Group Meeting – Sat, May 10th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
“Feldenkrais and Easier Movement”
Irene Pasternack, a Feldenkrais practitioner at Move Beyond Limits, will teach us a gentle, seated movement lesson that improves sensitivity and balance in our feet, ankles, and sit-bones. Fine-tuning the ability to organize over our feet can help us compensate for vestibular challenges, and improve comfort and safety. We will also discuss tips for various movement challenges, including relaxing into sleep, and day-time stress relievers.

Support Group Meeting – Sat, April 12th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
“Naturopathic Medicine & Meditation”
Dr. Maeghan Culver a naturopathic doctor at Bastyr Center for Natural Health will share and discuss with us about “How to Stay Grounded in an Unstable World” focusing on a meditative approach to coping with chronic dizziness and imbalance.
Beginning with the roots of Naturopathic Medicine, we will learn about this healing philosophy and how it applies to vertigo/dizziness/imbalance. Specifically, we will explore the mental, emotional, and spiritual components of living with chronic vestibular illness and how we can use meditative practices to improve our quality of life. Throughout the presentation we will utilize several meditative approaches, and we will also be given resources for continuing a meditative practice.

Support Group Meeting – Sat, March 8th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
“Living with an ‘Invisible’ Chronic Illness“
We will plan to discuss the often “invisible” nature of vestibular and balance disorders and share strategies for helping others to become more aware of and better understand the daily struggles and challenges of living with chronic dizziness and imbalance.

Support Group Meeting – Sat, Feb. 8th – 1-3 pm at Green Lake Library
This meeting we will have a Guest Speaker on the topic of “Food & Mood.”
Marley Braun, Registered Dietitian and founder of Beauty Brains & Braun Nutrition, will present on Food and Mood. Come find out what foods have the best mood-boosting properties and how you can incorporate these into your diet. We will also discuss tips to enhance emotional health, including how to combat an anxiety attack, how to manage stress, why sleep is important and how to get a good night’s rest.
About our speaker: Marley obtained her Master of Science in Nutrition from Bastyr University and her approach focuses on whole natural foods, culinary techniques and mindful eating. “Living with a ‘New Normal’ in the New Year“
We will plan to share our hopes for the New Year and discuss how to have reasonable expectations and attainable goals for 2014 in light of the challenges of living with a “new normal” of chronic dizziness and imbalance.
